Rent The Runway

- Collaborators, Fashion

Ladies, we’ve all been there. The stressful “I have nothing to wear” stage of fury when trying to plan an outfit for a big event. My room can be completely spotless until I flip through my wardrobe and can’t find the perfect piece for whatever event is coming up. In an instant, tops are tossed and shoes cover the floor like you just walked into “the land of misfit looks”. Rent The Runway saves you from the stress of searching your wardrobe and outfit planning, so you can focus on the upside of your event. If you aren’t familiar with RTR, you can visit one of their many locations nationwide or online, and you’re able to pick from hundreds of designer dresses, jewels, and handbags and rent them for a very reasonable price.

They have the perfect look for the endless occasions you can imagine: weddings, black tie, date night, prom, cocktail parties, bridal showers, mardi gras and (the upcoming Valentine’s Day?).

The team at the stunning Georgetown location (right on M street) grabbed a few looks for us that we could shoot Gala Season looks for. Let me tell you, walking into that store, I felt like Mia from Princess Diaries (and we were treated as such) when she first walked into her new closet at the palace. We first walked down a long hall lined with dresses fit for the stars and made way downstairs to a room full of gowns and jewels. Everything was perfectly in its place, with racks of dresses sorted by color, mirrors lining the walls, and a whole separate room past the dressing rooms for jewelry and purses! #goals

BREAKING NEWS: Renting Is The New Black.

We both grabbed our two dresses with two pieces of jewelry and headed to our photo shoot at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery with our photographer Lawrence.
We shot our looks between The Great Hall and The Lincoln Gallery of the museum.

I was a little nervous going into this that since I’m so petite, their dresses would run huge on me and that they wouldn’t have anything for someone my frame. I was so ecstatic when we told the lady at the front desk our sizes, and they said their sizes range completely, and they have plenty of options for people with all types of figures. I wore two ML Monique Lhuillier dresses, along with two Lulu Frost statement earrings. My first dress was a black high-low style gown by ML Monique Lhuillier and I chose this dress because even though gowns are typically floor length, I thought showing my leg in the front and having the upper half of the dress form fitting, it gave it the illusion that my legs appeared longer. It was important for me to keep the rest of my look (makeup, jewelry) simple as to call more attention to the feathered lace hem of the dress. I did this by wearing my hair in a top-knot so my curls wouldn’t overpower the look, and by adding an accent of blue crystal in my earrings. My second dress was another by ML Monique Lhuillier, and I fell in love with this in the dressing room because it fit like a glove! The rich red tone and lace gave it a very bold and sexy feel, without it being too flashy or provocative. I styled my hair in an up-do again with this dress in order to show of the criss-cross back, antique gold earrings, and sweetheart neckline. (This dress is also the perfect piece for Valentine’s Day!!!)

Nicoles’ two gowns were by ML Monique Lhuillier and Slate & Willow.  She looked phenomenal when she stepped out of the dressing room in the purple and navy jacquard gown, it was as if Monique made it for her! The flowy and full gown definitely had a lot of modern touches to it with the V-neckline, side pockets and back cut-out detailing. Since Nicole had her hair down and wavy, she enhanced the look by adding a gold plated flower bracelet by Marchesa Jewelry, versus a pair of earrings! Nicoles’ second gown was another floor length and V-neck style, but this one with more of a slender look. The black butterfly tier gown was form-fitting down to the waist, where it then flared out and fell comfortably by your side to give it a more delicate and graceful sense. Her hair was down, but still at just the right length where you can still bring focus to the detail in her butterfly sleeves. Since it was an all black look, she gave it life in a bold red lip and gold plated cuff with crystal accents by Sarah Magid.
