Keeping Cool in Cashmere

- Fashion

It’s no surprise that when someone says “cashmere” you automatically think of sweater weather.  We know, sitting by the fire, drinking hot cocoa in your cozy cashmere.  We get it.  But who says you can’t keep cool in cashmere too?  Take “no sweaters in summer” and throw that fashion stigma right out the window with “no white after Labor Day” and we’ll show you how.

Cashmere is a very fine fabric, not like your coarser wools or heavy cottons, and Zynni Cashmere uses the finest of it.  Zynni takes cashmere from China that is around 15.5 microns and knits a piece that is soft and light yet strong and substantial.  How fine is a micron?  15.5 microns is equal to 0.0006th of an inch.  That is a VERY fine strand which lends to its delicate luxury and its breathable composition.

“A 100% fine cashmere luxury label from innovative designer Qing Hua, a London College of Fashion graduate.  Zynni Cashmere combines opulent luxury with architectural simplicity, the label speaks of natural elegance, freedom and harmony.” – Zynni Cashmere

We took two Zynni Cashmere pieces and styled them for an easy transition and something you can wear through the summer months too.  The first is Chelsea’s yellow cashmere skirt.  Yellow is such a hot color right now and this mustard hue looks great on everyone’s skin tone.  The skirt was not too bulky and fit her petite frame as a maxi, but is designed to be a midi for most.  That 100% cashmere is flowy and moves with her so she stayed cool even in a warmer day.  She dressed it up with this flouncy white bodysuit and nude pumps for a look you can wear from work to date night.  For her casual look, she paired it with black Greats sneakers and a graphic tank with drop armhole sleeves.  This kept her cool and casual and wearing graphic tees with skirts and skirts or dresses with sneakers is an edgy and easy trend.  It’s perfect for busy metro cities like New York, DC, and LA where we’re constantly on the go and need a look that can transition with us.  You can easily transition this look for Spring or Fall with a cropped jean jacket or your fave go-to leather jacket.

“There is NO law saying that you can’t wear cashmere for day or even all year,” Elie Tahari

Cashmere is featherweight so as warm as it is outside, cashmere doesn’t get that hot.  My Zynni piece was this asymmetrical, boat neck sweater that I wore off-the-shoulder.  It’s important to think of the inside too where you have air-conditioning and it’s freezing even in the summer months.  Going to a restaurant, I feel like I can’t even enjoy my food if it’s too cold inside and I’m shivering sitting near the air-conditioning so I always carry a light sweater, just in case.  This piece was so light and the sleeves rolled up easily with their dolman-style top but fitted cuffs, that I could wear this without breaking a sweat and without the need for carrying anything with me.  I paired it with an A-line white skirt and these sock heels for the office (or brunch) and then untucked it to give it a more casual vibe when I paired it with distressed denim for a day binge-eating popcorn at the movie theater.

Cashmere has always been “in” for Fall and Winter so even the designers have created a summer-weight cashmere that is thinner for the warmer months.  Even if you don’t want to wear it as a sweater, there’s always bandolier-style over one shoulder, or rolled up and tied around the waist as a belt pack.

“In a strange way, cashmere has become the fur shrug for warm weather,” Michael Kors said. “It’s a part of the nomad wardrobe where women will wear boots in the summer and layers of lightweight clothes in the winter as they go through different environments. It’s fashion at its most utilitarian.”

Many are demanding knitwear that feels cooler to the touch than cotton or wool just so they can keep the trend going in the summer.  And now, you can keep it cool with your Zynni Cashmere pieces too, Darlings.
